One of the largest mobile operators in the UK, EE, has published new recommendations for parents. They advise against buying smartphones for children under the age of 11.

Instead, primary school-age children are encouraged to be given "disabled devices" that only allow them to make calls and send text messages.

If a child aged 16 or younger still buys a smartphone, then EE recommends activating parental control. And if the child is under 13 years old, it is strongly recommended to restrict access to social networks.

The company claims that these measures are aimed at protecting children in the digital world.

The guidelines for parents were developed after a survey revealed that almost a quarter of Britons aged five to seven already have a smartphone.

While technology and connectivity can transform lives, the company recognizes that the growing technical complexity of smartphones can be a challenge for parents and carers alike. They need support.
